It all started with a legend...
The Festival of the ‘Knot of Love’ is without doubt one of the most beautiful and fascinating traditions in Verona.
It all goes back to a legend, the most classic of love stories, with two lovers who are not allowed to live their love. They are Malco, captain of the Viscount’s troops, and Silvia, a beautiful water nymph of the river Mincio, who due to her nature cannot stay with her lover and leaves him a knotted handkerchief as a token of her love.
During feast days and holidays, the golden handkerchief, the symbol of the two lovers, is still served at the tables of Valeggio as the famous ‘Nodo d’Amore’ (‘Knot of Love’), a turnover of paper-thin pasta with a delicate filling.
Borghetto dedicates the traditional dinner on the Ponte Visconteo bridge to this special product and hosts thousands of guests from all over the world every year. This dinner (by reservation only) takes place at a single, long table stretching across the whole bridge and invites diners to savor the delicious dishes prepared by restaurants, local cooks and waiters – among them the famous tortellini, handmade one by one, as tradition demands.
After sunset and the traditional tastings, captivating sounds and fireworks will light up the castle of Valeggio sul Mincio and delight the dinner guests.
