Fondazione Brescia Musei: A Journey Through the History and Art of Brescia
About an hour from Lake Garda, Brescia preserves one of the most important cultural heritages in Northern Italy. The Fondazione Brescia Musei is the institution responsible for the promotion and management of the city's main museums and monuments, offering visitors a fascinating journey through the centuries, from the Roman Age to the twentieth century, in an exceptional unicum due to the richness and variety of the artworks and archaeology.
The purchase of the Museum Ticket (Biglietto Musei) allows one entry into each of the city's four civic museums (Santa Giulia Museum, Tosio Martinengo Picture Gallery, Museum of the Risorgimento "Leonessa d’Italia", Luigi Marzoli Arms Museum). Additionally, the Integrated Ticket (Biglietto Integrato) is available, which also allows entry to Brixia. Archaeological Park of Roman Brescia, as well as to the four civic museums:
- Santa Giulia Museum, an extraordinary monastic complex and UNESCO World Heritage Site.
- Brixia – Archaeological Park of Roman Brescia, one of the most important Roman archaeological areas in Northern Italy.
- Tosio Martinengo Art Gallery, home to masterpieces of Renaissance and modern art.
- Luigi Marzoli Arms Museum.
- Leonessa d'Italia Museum of the Risorgimento.
A visit to the Museums of Brescia represents an excellent cultural excursion for those staying on Lake Garda. In a few hours, it is possible to discover testimonies of the Roman era, medieval treasures, Renaissance works, and important temporary exhibitions, immersing oneself in the history of a city that has been able to preserve and enhance its artistic heritage. Particularly suggestive are the Santa Giulia Museum and Brixia. Archaeological Park of Roman Brescia, both included since 2011 in the UNESCO site "The Longobards in Italy. Places of the Power", one of the most important historical testimonies of Lombardy.
Fondazione Brescia Musei organizes a guided tour in Italian every Sunday at 11:00 a.m., rotating among its different museum venues, to discover the collections and heritage preserved in the Civic Museums. The tours are conducted in Italian, and advance booking is recommended as places are limited.
Guided tours are also available in foreign languages, for which it is necessary to contact the Unique Reservation Center (CUP) active from Monday to Saturday from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm (+39 030 8174200 / [email protected]).
