The Verona Carnival is a historical event that involves and fascinates all the inhabitants of the city of Verona.
It takes place on the last Friday before Lent and sees the parade of sixty allegorical floats through the streets of the historic centre, preceded by the Papà del Gnoco, the traditional mask of the Verona carnival.
Today, the Verona Carnival is a very popular event among the local population and attracts tourists from all over Italy and abroad.
During the celebrations, typical carnival dishes are served, such as gnocchi served with melted butter and grated cheese or with a tomato sauce, and sweets such as frittelle, galani, crostoli, frittole and favette. In addition, masks, dancers and musical groups enliven the town, keeping alive a tradition that dates back to 1531.
The parade of floats is the highlight of the carnival, with over 100,000 spectators of all ages watching the spectacle through the main streets of the city.
The floats will start parading on Friday at 2pm, starting from Corso Porta Nuova.
