Garda marks the appointment with the traditional Moonlit "Sardellata". "Sardella" is the local word for sardine, and a "sardellata" is a sardine feast - this is one of the most traditional and picturesque celebrations on Lake Garda.
The tradition started with sardine fishing on the lake when Garda was a small fisherman’s village. During long summer days, as it began to grow dark, the fishers would take their boats out to the Pal del Vo', and would share a moment of merriment, once the fish was cooked and good wine would be offered around.
In this celebration, held in an of the Lake with shallow waters along the Sirmione - San Vigilio line, where the fish still lay their eggs, guests have always enjoyed delicious, simple dishes.
This year, tradition is once again revived along the lakeside, and the celebration will be livened by music performances and several wine and food stalls with fish from the lake and the excellent produce and delicacies from the area.
