Borghetto sul Mincio
The typical landscape of Borghetto sul Mincio is able to take back in time. Borghetto represents a place where the beauties of nature blend completely with the important Medieval cultural heritage, such as the Ponte Visconteo and the Castello Scaligero. This area, during the Middle Ages, was a borderline territory and was constantly observed from the Signoria of Milan, Mantua and Verona because it’s one of the most useful and safest ford of the river Mincio.
You can easily reach the hamlet by bike: as a matter of fact it’s on the famous cycle path which is along the river Mincio and that connects Peschiera del Garda to Mantua, passing through Borghetto (about 15 km from Peschiera del Garda).
It’s an enchanted location, ideal for those who love tranquility and romantic strolls by the river: for this reason many people consider it one of the most evocative hamlets of Italy.
Borghetto a district of Valeggio sul Mincio, a place famous especially for its gastronomy and for the Parco Giardino Sigurtà. In the old town there’s the picturesque Medieval Castello Scaligero, on a hill among the shores of the river Mincio, and it’s possible to visit a part which has been recently renovated.
The Parco Giardino Sigurtà is a naturalistic park which is more than 60 hectares. Every year thousands of visitors choose to admire the Park to enjoy its beauty, which has been preserved during the history and day after day continues to be maintained and enhanced. For the little ones the educational farm of the park is an unmissable step: here they can meet many friendly animals and attend free events.
And during your visit in Valeggio and Borghetto don’t forget to taste the famous Tortellini of Valeggio: very thin egg pasta stuffed with the best meat, which you can enjoy in broth or with butter… a real goodness!
