Paragliding may involve dizzying heights, but it is not an extreme sport. It does not require any special physical skills, but you will need to be familiar with the appropriate techniques. This is why there are more and more clubs on Lake Garda's eastern shore offering tandem flights, giving the chance to launch while harnessed to an experienced and licensed pilot. Both instructional and advanced flights are organized – the goal is to have fun and enjoy the peace you can only find up there in the blue sky.
The greatest thrill is gliding down from the summit of Monte Baldo. The height difference for this launch is around 1700 meters. The 'terrace' over the Garda – as it is known – can be reached by cablecar from Malcesine, so you can launch from the western side, which overlooks the lake.
The view is breathtaking; it feels as though you are diving into endless blue, as if water and sky come together as one. Just the rustling of the wind as your soundtrack. Other takeoff areas are the eastern side of Monte Baldo, which overlooks the land, and some points around Caprino Veronese.
Safety first. Unless you are an expert, you should get in touch with one of the local flight clubs. They offer flights for all levels of experience and all necessary equipment. It is important that you wear a suitable outfit for the windy conditions you will encounter (something very similar to hiking clothes will do just fine) and choose a beautiful sunny day, so you can admire Lake Garda in all its beauty. But, maybe, you need only one real piece of advice: take off and fully relish this unique experience, without fear, although your adrenaline may still decide to kick in!
