Let's take a step back and call the forerunner and natural father of wakeboarding to mind: water skiing.
On the snow, one day two skiis became a single board to create snowboard, and just like that, on the water there are more and more athletes who enjoy wakeboarding, the aquatic version of snowboard. It is a very active and exciting sport, involving jumps, high speeds and acrobatics.
The schools on the Venetian side of Lake Garda are recognized by the Italian Water Skiing and Wakeboarding Federation (“Federazione Italiana Sci Nautico e Wakeboard”). They are located mostly around Lazise and Bardolino, and they offer equipment and instructors for all those who want to try this experience, even total beginners. As well as the board – although barefoot waterskiing is becoming more and more popular – specially designed boats, which can create the perfect waves for jumps and tricks, are necessary.
However, on the shores of the lake cable wake parks have been created; that is, parks where you can wakeboard without being towed by a boat, but rather by an electrical cable system. For wakeboard enthusiasts they are a basically like amusement parks. Kickers emerge from the water, so beginners can familiarize with jumps and experts can try out new, thrilling tricks.
In the area of Lake Garda Trentino, wakeboarding is more common at Lake Ledro and Lake Terlago, as motorboats cannot navigate in the Trentino part of Lake Garda. It is a sport that can involve both adults and children, which allows you to experience unique emotions!
In the Brescia part of Lake Garda, however, the most famous wakeboarding centers are Desenzano del Garda, Limone sul Garda and Gardone Riviera. Lake Garda with its splendid panoramas is the ideal background for this sport, moreover almost every location has its own port where you can rent both motorboats and specific equipment.
