Recreational fishing and even more so commercial fishing build a cornerstone of the culture and traditions of Lake Garda. This is the reason, as well as the significant number of fishers active only in the holiday season, that this activity is becoming more and more tightly regulated. The aim is undoubtedly to safeguard endangered species as much as possible and prevent unchecked fishing. This being said, the lake is certainly a never-ending source of fun for fishers.

However, you need to hold a fishing license. For tourists, a temporary license, valid for three months, is issued.

Fishing requires calm, patience and skill. In this sport, which can be enjoyed either from a boat or from the shore, technique and experience count, but that doesn't mean that beginners can't have fun learning. There are certainly plenty of fish!

Pike, tench, trout, the Lake Garda carpione (less common and for the more experienced) can be fished in the lake, starting one hour before sunrise up to one hour after sunset. During the night, eel fishing is allowed, but the exception is only for this species and only from the shore. Once you've got your fishing rod, there's nothing to do but let the sun caress you as you wait for a fish to take the bait and then see who made the biggest catch!
