Toscolano Maderno

Toscolano Maderno is a town in the province of Brescia which is located on the western shore of Lake Garda, in the center of the Riviera dei Limoni.
It is on a large promontory enclosed between the suggestive port of Toscolano and the Gulf of Maderno, it is about 40 km from Brescia and belongs to the Parco Alto Garda Bresciano regional park.
The municipality of Toscolano Maderno represents a historical and economic reality of great importance in the Riviera dei Limoni and Castelli, and it is the only municipality on the Brescia side that acts as a docking point to cross the lake with your own car on the Navigarda ferries, in connection with Torri del Benaco.

Toscolano and Maderno became a single municipality in 1928. Both locations have two different centers, which are separated by the Toscolano torrent.
Toscolano is known for the paper industry (the paper mills where paper money was printed until 1948 are very famous) and for publishing, while Maderno's economy is mainly based on tourism. These places were fundamental for the Italian paper production, which is still very active today. An ancient factory has recently been transformed into the Paper Museum, which can be visited through the very interesting route of the Valle delle Cartiere.

This area is also renowned for the production of wines, oils and lemon juice. The cultivation of lemon was introduced by Franciscan monks in the thirteenth century and for a long time lemons were exported all over Europe.

In Toscolano-Maderno there are many places worth visiting, such as the parish church of San Pietro and Paolo in Toscolano, the Sanctuary of the Madonna del Benaco, the Palazzo Nuovo in Maderno and many other important buildings and monuments.

The surroundings offer various ideas for excursions, trekking and golf on the neighboring hills.
The area is particularly recommended for those who love long walks and mountain bike trails.

Toscolano Maderno is also famous thanks to a wonderful beach called Lido Azzurro. It is a beach on payment and equipped, which offers various services such as sunbeds, umbrellas, changing rooms, bars and a restaurant-pizzeria with a playground for the little ones.
