Desenzano

Desenzano del Garda is a town in Lombardy, in the province of Brescia, located on the south-west shore of Lake Garda, 10 km from Sirmione.
Most probably the area where today the city of Desenzano del Garda rises was already inhabited during Prehistory, as revealed by the many archaeological finds in the area, which date back to the Bronze Age.
Desenzano also has a rich artistic, historical and archaeological heritage that has its roots mainly in the Roman Age.

The harbor is certainly the fulcrum of the city: once it was in fact an important center of exchanges and negotiations, able to accommodate the boats of the merchants who transported oil, citrus fruits, wines and fabrics.
Some of the must-see places in Desenzano del Garda are the Castle that dominates the city and the Cathedral dedicated to St. Mary Magdalene, as well as the Archaeological Museum, the numerous mosaics and the excavations of the Roman Villa, located in the historic center.
