Gardone Riviera
Gardone Riviera is located about 40 km from Brescia on the western shore of Lake Garda, at the beginning of the Riviera dei Limoni.
The strategic position gives tourists the opportunity to take a holiday or a trip full of interesting experiences: starting from here it is possible to easily visit different places on Lake Garda. Gardone Riviera is also a town rich in history, culture and nature. You can admire the magnificent historic buildings, the wonderful period villas or the picturesque villages of Gardone di Sotto and Gardone di Sopra that are connected to each other by the famous Botanical Garden André Heller Foundation. Inside the botanical garden you can admire the typical Mediterranean vegetation, but also the subtropical and Central European ones, surrounded by works of famous artists.
Over the years, Gardone has become a significant tourist destination, above all thanks to the fact that the belief that the place had enormous health benefits had spread: an excellent example is Luigi Wimmer, a famous person of Austrian origin, who spent in Gardone a prolonged period of care, so much to fall in love with it and decide to build the first large hotel in the town.
Once he became mayor of Gardone in 1881, Luigi Wimmer worked hard to promote this location on Lake Garda throughout Europe and, in a very short time, Gardone became a sought-after and very popular tourist destination, where royalty and prominent personalities went.
The most famous place of interest is undoubtedly the Vittoriale degli Italiani, a monumental citadel owned by the poet Gabriele D'Annunzio from 1921 to 1938. Inside the building, surrounded by a lot of gardens, there is also the tomb of D 'Annunzio, a real open-air theater, the D'Annunzio museum and a library.
From this location it is possible to admire the splendid landscapes of Monte Baldo and the Isola del Garda by sitting comfortably while drinking a good coffee in one of the many bars on the lakefront. In addition, various cultural and musical events are organized, as well as sporting events.
