Moniga

Moniga del Garda is a small town in the province of Brescia, located on the Lombard shore of Lake Garda.
The history of Moniga del Garda is linked to the Roman domination, the barbarian invasions and the domination by Venice. It is of course known that Moniga has been inhabited since the Bronze Age, as some stilt houses dating back to that time were found in the area of "Porto".
In recent decades Moniga del Garda has gained importance thanks to the tourism development, but the historic center still retains its characteristic narrow streets and rustic aspect that has made it unique for centuries. The small village is full of typical craft shops, where you can buy local products.
The church of the village is dedicated to San Martino, it is in Baroque style and its construction was completed at the end of the 1700s. Above the entrance portal there is a large rectangular window in which it’s possible to recognize the famous scene of San Martino that gives his cloak to the beggar.
At the entrance of the village, the Castle is also worth a visit, which dates back to the 10th century and surrounds a small and charming village with its white stone walls.

Moniga del Garda is well known also thanks to the claret wine, thanks to which the City of Chiaretto was named. The renowned “Valtenesi in Rosa” festival, dedi cated entirely to this wine, is organized every year, but it is also possible to participate in various food and wine events, which normally take place between the months of March and October.
The production of olive oil also has a certain importance and is protected by the "Extra Virgin Olive Oil DOP Garda" brand.

Although it is a small town, it is able to offer its guests a wide choice in order to have fun and to dedicate themselves to different types of sports: in fact there are many beaches, both free and equipped, soccer and tennis courts and cycle paths, so that you can discover the villages of this wonderful area.
The hilly landscape surrounding Moniga offers cycling enthusiasts different possibilities: there are many routes that allow you to discover the wonders of this area.
