Camping Riva del Garda: medieval echoes on Lake Garda

Riva del Garda is the northernmost town of the lake, in Trentino Alto Adige, about 50 km from Trento and within walking distance or bicycle trip from the village of Torbole, on the slopes of the characteristic Monte Brione.
The landscape of Riva del Garda is characterized by a rich vegetation composed mainly of lemons, olive trees, oleanders and palm trees.
Riva was founded in Roman times and subsequently went through several historical events: it has always been a place disputed by different states, thanks to the importance of its port and, later, of the hydroelectric power station.
Even today, the remains of the ancient walls that surrounded the village during the Middle Ages are still visible in the historic center of Riva del Garda.
In the center of Riva del Garda you can admire and visit different palaces and works: a visit to the Rocca di Riva is certainly a must, which was built in 1124 with the aim of protecting the town from possible attacks on the port. Today the Rocca di Riva houses the MAG, the Alto Garda Museum with its art gallery, the archaeological section and an area dedicated to various temporary exhibitions. In the central courtyard of the Rocca, various shows and events are organized. It is also possible to visit the tower of the Rocca, in order to admire the extraordinary view of the city and the whole of Lake Garda.
Another important place is Piazza III Novembre, where there are the Palazzo Pretorio, the Palazzo del Municipio and the Apponale Tower which, in the event of a siege, represented a safe shelter.
Another important square is Piazza Cavour, in the center of the city, where the Church of Santa Maria Assunta is located.

Deciding to spend your holidays in Riva del Garda is an excellent choice for all lovers of local history, discovering, through what remains today, a world unknown to most. But Riva del Garda is not only about palaces and ancient buildings. In fact, thanks to the rich offer of cultural events, especially in summer, many young people choose to spend a weekend in Riva del Garda to take part in them.

If you leave the town, in the direction of Limone, there is the monumental building of the hydroelectric power station of Riva del Garda, built by the lake in the 1920s based on a project by D'Annunzio's architect, Giancarlo Maroni, former architect of the Vittoriale degli Italiani . The plant is still active and offers an unexpected and involving visit experience, with original multimedia displays in order to discover how water is transformed into clean energy.

For sports lovers, Riva del Garda is the ideal destination for an active holiday: sailing, windsurfing, hiking, cycling and climbing are just some of the very popular disciplines at all times of the year.
Among the various trekking (also suitable for families) and mountain biking trails, the Ponale path is one of the most recommended: 10 km connecting Riva with Lake Ledro on the old Ponale road, with unique panoramic views of Benaco.

For sports enthusiasts, spending their holidays or even just a few days in a camping in Riva del Garda or in campsites near Riva del Garda is undoubtedly the most convenient choice if you prefer to travel a little bit towards the mountains: from here upwards, towards the north, the climber's paradise begins and there are many excursions possible.

In Riva del Garda there are also several beaches with large green areas, which stand out for their crystal-clear water. The two most popular and visited beaches are the beach of Sabbioni and the beach dei Pini.

There are also many possibilities for those who go on holiday with their dogs. In fact, in addition to the many dog areas and lakeside promenades, there are areas that also allow your four-legged friend access to the water.

Therefore, you can search for an accommodation among the campsites in Riva del Garda with dogs allowed. Both Lake Garda and the nearby Lake Tenno offer many possibilities for dog access via the BauBeaches. We recommend you to contact the tourist office for more details about these possibilities depending on the time of year you want to go on holiday or for a weekend in Riva del Garda.

Among the events not to be missed in Riva del Garda is the famous Notte di Fiaba. It is a celebration that takes place in late August, full of dances, games and musical events, which ends with the largest summer firework display that illuminates the waters of Lake Garda in a suggestive way, giving a unique and unforgettable atmosphere.

Discover all the holiday offers in Riva del Garda and find the best solution for your needs among the campsites in Riva del Garda or in the nearby villages to enjoy unforgettable moments while doing what you love and relaxing completely.
