Sirmione

"The pearl of the islands and of the peninsulas": this is how the Latin poet Catullus defined it in the famous Poem 31, pleased to return to his Sirmione after the hardships of his journey in Bithynia.

And indeed still today Sirmione is known as "The Pearl of lake Garda": one of the most characteristic places, "a floating island" in the middle of the lake, which represents one of the most visited tourist destinations also thanks to its strategic location, in correspondence of a long and thin peninsula that divides the gulfs of Desenzano and Peschiera del Garda.

The entrance to the village is a real postcard: a drawbridge accompanies the visitor inside the walls of the Scaliger Castle, where a multitude of narrow streets and squares full of shops, bars, restaurants and ice cream parlors branch off.

Among the places to visit, without any doubts the Castle-Rocca Scaligera stands out, as it is one of the best preserved castles in all of Italy. The Castle is bathed by the lake on all its sides and this feature makes it a magical and unique place.

Of great historical and artistic value are also the archaeological area of the Grotte di Catullo (remains of an ancient Roman villa dating back to the early Imperial Age), the small church of Sant'Anna, a small chapel dating back to the 1300s with decorations from the Baroque Age, located at the entrance of the village, and the church of San Pietro in Mavino.

Sirmione is also famous for the renowned Terme di Sirmione SPA, whose main establishment Aquaria Thermal SPA is located right on the peninsula of the historic center.

The historic center is full of streets characterized by stone walls that offer lots of romantic views and allow you to capture unforgettable moments.
Throughout the year various events are organized, such as cultural exhibitions, concerts and other very interesting events.
