Lago di Tenno
Walk among greenery and timeless atmospheres
This easy walk in Garda Trentino crosses two points of interest of great landscape and historical importance. We are talking about Lake Tenno, with its waters ranging from turquoise to emerald green, and the medieval village of Canale di Tenno, a village that seems to be suspended in an atmosphere out of time. The excursion is very simple and, also thanks to the absence of particular gradients, it is recommended for everyone, even for children.
THE LAKE TENNO
Lake Tenno is a small round-shaped lake with a small island in the southern area: in summer it is suitable for swimming, and is a perfect destination - just a few steps from Lake Garda - for those who want to enjoy moments of absolute tranquility and relaxation on the rocky beaches that embrace it. In summer, and in moments of drought and low tide, the small island in Lake Tenno becomes a peninsula connected to the mainland by a tongue of land.
An hour is enough to go around Lake Tenno. The walk develops along a circular route on a beaten path of about 2 kilometres. An itinerary as simple as it is suggestive: the Tenno area, in fact, belongs to the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve "Alpi Ledrensi e Judicaria", an identification that is granted only to places that have been able to develop while maintaining a solid link between territory, tradition, tourism and agriculture.
BORGO CANALE DI TENNO
Less than a ten-minute walk from Lake Tenno (and ten kilometers from Riva del Garda) is the medieval village of Canale di Tenno. Nestled in the hills about 500 meters above sea level, the village is a real treat for the eyes. Reaching it is easy, the path from the lake does not present any difficulty, and once you arrive it is a pleasure to stroll through its narrow streets immersed in the sweet atmosphere of other times. Definitely worth visiting is the Casa degli Artisti, dedicated to the Turin painter Giacomo Vittone who lived here, today a building where artists can stop and stay overnight in exchange for the creation of a work inspired by the village and the surrounding nature. The frescoes that adorn the facades of the houses are also extremely fascinating.
EVENTS NOT TO BE MISSED
The tiny and delightful square, the barely forty people who inhabit the town, the recognition as one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, the mountain that becomes a hill until it slides into Lake Garda… if you love peace and a certain touch of romance, Canale di Tenno is the ideal place for you.
And if you are fond of historical re-enactments, Canale di Tenno is definitely the place to be in August, generally around the second week of the month, when the streets of the village come alive with Rustico Medioevo: performances, shows, storytellers for a real plunge into history.
Do not miss the Christmas Markets, which unlike many other similar events do not take place on the street with the usual stalls, but inside the cellars, in a truly suggestive atmosphere.
NEARBY
A recommended excursion, not far from Lake Tenno, is the one to Lake Ledro and the Museum of pile dwellings. Also nearby, a visit to the Varone waterfalls is also highly recommended.
