Lago di Tobino
Lake Toblino between perfumes and legends
Lake Toblino is a unique place in the world: lemons, rosemary and olives in a typically alpine landscape.
Nestled in the Valle dei Laghi, this lake is protected by a barrier of mountains and influenced by the mild climate of Lake Garda: this explains the presence of Mediterranean flora and fauna.
But above all, Lake Toblino is one of the most romantic destinations on Lake Garda, perfect for a walk hand in hand, deeply breathing in the scents of the trees and filling your eyes with beauty.
First of all: how to get there?
It is certainly possible to reach Lake Toblino by car, but one of the best connections is via the Valle dei Laghi cycle path, which connects Torbole (or Riva del Garda) to Lake Toblino in a route of great scenic value, where you can admire the many small lakes that dot the valley. Perfect, for example, for a day trip.
Once you reach your destination, the first thing that impresses you is the splendid castle of Toblino, which stands on the promontory of the same name in a protected peninsula within the lake.
An evocative show at any time of the year, but which in certain periods increases its magic.
In fact, in autumn , the warm-toned colors make this area even more romantic and at the same time mysterious; while in the spring dawns, with the fog embracing the shores of the lake, for a curious optical perception the castle seems to rise directly on the water, like a dream, in a fairytale atmosphere.
It is not difficult to understand why the legend tells that this place was populated by the Fates and Fairies, divinities probably of Celtic origin, connected with the natural world and venerated for the protection of births. During the third century, the local inhabitants even dedicated a small temple to them, of which we know today thanks to a plaque walled up in the castle porch.
The luxuriant nature of the lake area, in addition to the romantic and peaceful atmosphere, makes this landscape truly special: to immerse yourself in the greenery of the reeds that embrace the lake, you can take the walk on the comfortable wooden walkways that wind along the western part of the lake, slightly raised from the road.
Precisely the luxuriant vegetation made sure that Lake Toblino was recognized as a biotope of naturalistic, botanic and ethological interest and, for this reason, it has been protected by the autonomous province of Trento since 1992.
The encounter between the Alpine landscape and the Mediterranean climate favors a great biodiversity: it is not uncommon to spot the gray heron and, among the reeds, the river nightingale, the mallard, the moorhen, while the lake is frequented, among others, by the whitefish, the perch, and the stream trout.
In short, whether you are an ethologist, a botanist, or simply a lover of all that is romantic and enchanted, Lake Toblino is the perfect destination for you.
